The ORNC has 120 historic lanterns around the grounds, many dating back to the 19th century when Philip Hardwick was Surveyor of the Fabric. Individualy designed, mirroring the naval iconography of the site: anchors, tridents, sails, cannons and cannon balls, the lanterns haven’t been restored for many years.

Due to the unique and labour intensive nature of the restoration, the current average cost of restoring one lantern is £4600. However once rehung and subject to adverse weather conditions the lantern will require on-going cleaning as well as future restoration.

Income from an endowment gift of £5,400 would provide the necessary funds to carry on this vital work.
