It is tradition for the Chapel Choir to sing Choral Matins on the Sunday closest to the Battle of Trafalgar, in the beautiful Chapel of Sts Peter and Paul.

A sung morning prayer, Choral Matins was created by Cranmer as a new service when the Church of England was created when Henry VIII became the head of the Church, and is not usually offered except in some Cathedrals and larger churches. Join us for prayers, readings from the bible and a sermon with many parts of the service sung by the choir. The music forms a much greater part of the service than it does at a Eucharist.

Order of Service:

Introit: Ave maris stella – Grieg       Psalm 84:1-7
Missa Ave maris stella – Victoria

Anthem: They that go down to the sea in ships – Sumsion       Hymns 485, 271, 488

Voluntary: Final: Allegro assai – A. Guilmant
