Rob Pointon, artist-in-residence at the Old Royal Naval College for the last 18 months, presents a new exhibition showcasing his latest work. Pointon offers a painter’s response to contemporary life in Greenwich, capturing the landscape, architecture and people that lend this part of London its unique atmosphere.

Pointon is a ‘plein air’ painter, creating his works on location and often out of doors rather than in a studio. Braving the British weather and sensitive to the changing light, Pointon’s artworks have a thrilling sense of immediacy and of ‘being in the moment’. Excitingly, the exhibition includes several paintings created in situ in the magnificent Painted Hall and capturing the spirit of the current conservation project and the visitors who come to marvel at Thornhill’s great masterpiece – one artist responding to another. As well as scenes of Greenwich, the exhibition includes several major works documenting activity on the River Thames and the bustle of central London.
