Celebrate the reopening of the Painted Hall following a major £8.5m conservation project. Be one of the first to see the stunning transformation which has taken place in the Painted Hall and the Undercroft below, which now houses a new shop, café and Sackler Gallery space. Discover one of London’s most spectacular hidden gems set within Sir Christopher Wren’s riverside masterpiece. Visitors can now enjoy guided talks in the Painted Hall, a multimedia guide, handling objects, and a kids trail. Plus you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of the foundations of Greenwich Palace, Henry VIII’s former royal home which were uncovered in the Undercroft as part of the renovation works.

To commemorate the reopening, members of the Greenwich, Deptford and Rotherhithe Sea Cadets, will perform a ceremonial parade at 9.30am in the grounds on Saturday 23 March as we prepare to cut the ribbon and officially open the Painted Hall and Undercroft at 10am.

Throughout the weekend you’ll also find Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, James Thornhill (who painted the Painted Hall), Samuel Pepys and other historical characters touring our grounds and buildings; recitals from Trinity Laban musicians Jinah Shim and Nathan Durasamy; music from the Fugitive Orchestra and session musician Matt Bramhall; mouth-watering international food stalls and high-quality crafts from Amber Markets in front of the Visitor Centre; a photography exhibition on the mezzanine level in the Visitor Centre showing how the Painted Hall was conserved; kids activities (including crafty sessions with local favourites Emergency Exit Arts); plus lager lovers can take advantage of The Old Brewery’s pop up with Peroni on the Pepys Lawn. Scroll down to view the full schedule.

We are delighted to offer 25% off in our fabulous Painted Hall Café – which will be serving a range of freshly prepared breakfast items, seasonal salads, sandwiches and a daily special. Delicious cakes and speciality tea are also available throughout the day. Our beautiful new Painted Hall shop will also be offering 10% discount on our curated range of books and gorgeous gifts.
