October 2013

The Chapel of St Peter and St Paul at the Old Royal Naval College (ORNC) has commissioned designer Sebastian Bergne to produce a larger scale contemporary nativity based on his colour nativity sets produced last year.

Each of the characters is a minimal wooden block that is recognisable by its colour, proportion and place in the composition. The project makes use of our learned experience from exposure to thousands of images, toys and Christmas cards over the years.

Set in the neoclassical interior of the Chapel, this contemporary interpretation of the nativity will contrast impressively with its surroundings providing a thought provoking alternative to the figurative versions we know so well.

About the Chapel:
The Chapel, designed by Sir Christopher Wren, with a spectacular interior by James ‘Athenian’ Stuart, is home to a thriving and diverse, all-age congregation, and a world-class choir with a growing reputation. The Advent and Christmas season is especially busy. For all details of services and concerts please visit the events calendar.
