Last Thursday one of the ORNC's much loved and respected member's of staff, Don Simms, celebrated his 84th Birthday and said farewell to all at the ORNC.

Many ORNC staff and friends were invited to join Don at the Yacht pub in Greenwich to celebrate his birthday and wish his farewell for the future. It's fair to say many tears were shed....

Don moved to Greenwich in 1954 (almost to the day the Cutty Sark arrived) with his young bride Doreen and joined the Metropolitan police as a Probationer Constable, where he worked for 30 years. He then later joined the ORNC as a Guide, where he was able to share his knowledge of Greenwich and the ORNC to many visitors from all corners of the globe, for 16 years.

Don will be a much missed member of staff for all at the ORNC, however Don is looking forward to embarking on his next adventure and exploring the many stations the London Underground has to offer with his Freedom Pass, and not only that, but Don plans to continue volunteering with a number of organisations including Focus Gateway Club for children with learning disabilities as well as divulging into a number of books.

From all the ORNC, it’s been a pleasure to work with Don, good luck with the future and happy birthday!
