July 2012

Prospective Presidential Candidate, Mitt Romney, and his wife Ann visited the Old Royal Naval College as part of their current trip to Europe.

The couple, who are in the UK for the opening of the Olympic Games, recorded a programme with celebrated British interviewer, Piers Morgan, for his popular US series on CNN, Piers Morgan Tonight. The former Governor of Massachusetts had earlier met with the UK Prime Minister, David Cameron.

Greeted by ORNC CEO, Brendan McCarthy the Romneys thanked the leading Greenwich attraction for its warm hospitality. The Governor also remarked on the fact that the road between the ORNC and the park was in fact “Romney” Road.

CNN had chosen the Old Royal Naval College as the backdrop for the interview for the combination of its stunning architecture and its proximity to Greenwich Park where Rafalca, a horse part owned by Mrs Romney, will compete in the Olympic Dressage.

In a wide-ranging interview the couple talked about key political issues, Mrs Romney’s battle with MS and the proud moment when she carried the Torch for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Busy with the campaign, the Romneys rarely have time to relax together, but Mrs Romney confided in Piers Morgan that the couple were trying to watch the second series of Downton Abbey and Morgan compared the grandeur of the Old Royal Naval College to that of the fictional stately home.

The full interview is available to watch on CNN with sections of it available online at http://piersmorgan.blogs.cnn.com/category/piers-morgan-tonight/
