August 2012

The Old Royal Naval College (ORNC) has been awarded a Sandford Award for quality and excellence in heritage education. Two judges visited the site in May 2012 and viewed one of our creative and hand-on learning sessions, Myths and Masks, which looks at the Greek gods and monsters featured on the ceiling of the Painted Hall.

Over 12,300 school children and families take part in workshops and craft activities at our site each year, and the programme is going from strength to strength.  The programme aims to encourage understanding of and engagement with the site’s unique history, landscape and architecture.

One judge commented: 'I feel that I must emphasise that we were both very impressed by the professionalism and dedication of the three members of the education team.'
