Thornhill's Explanation

A facsimile of an original document, 'An Explanation of the Painting' by the artist Sir James Thornhill, carefully directs the viewer’s gaze over the Painted Hall’s ceilings and walls. Here he explains in his own words the role played by hundreds of historical and mythological figures in the overall story: the triumph of Protestantism and constitutional monarchy over Catholicism and tyranny.
