Volunteer Today

Volunteers are a fundamental part of the Old Royal Naval College's team, and we work to support and enrich our volunteers throughout their time with us.

Gain skills and experience at a cultural destination, become part of a friendly team, and learn about the history of the Old Royal Naval College, sharing your enthusiasm with our visitors.

We are looking to recruit a variety of roles including met and greet, interpretation and family ambassadors as well as tour guides and explainers. To sign up click the button above!

What will you be doing?

Volunteers are an important part of our team, working with all departments from front of house to back of house. As a volunteer, you might:

  • Assist our visitor experience team in welcoming and assisting visitors
  • Engage with visitors about the history of the Old Royal Naval College through talks, tours, object handling sessions and research
  • Fundraise to secure the future of the Old Royal Naval College
  • Assist our learning and interpretation team in delivering our learning programme
  • Provide behind-the-scenes office support and work on projects with our communications, learning, interpretation, security, fundraising and visitor experience teams

How will we support you?

We strive to ensure that you get the most out of your time volunteering with us. We will provide:

Training to build your confidence and your understanding of our work. This includes:

  • Ways to engage with our visitors
  • An introduction to the history of the Old Royal Naval College
  • How to give effective talks and handling sessions
  • How to ask for donations
  • How to assist young learners and families
  • Opportunities to meet other volunteers and staff members at social events

Advice and hands-on experience working for a busy and creative heritage organisation and support in your development, including references where applicable.

If you would like to speak to someone about volunteering at the Old Royal Naval College email our Volunteer Manager at [email protected] or call 020 8269 4794.

We prefer a regular commitment from our volunteers, but we can talk to you about what you can offer and hopefully fit around your schedule.
